Dr. Jennifer Hoffelmeyer
Dr. Jennifer Hoffelmeyer, originally from Winterset, Iowa, grew up in rural Madison county and graduated from Winterset High School. Upon graduation, she attended Iowa State University, graduating in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in animal science before earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Jennifer practiced mixed animal medicine in Chariton, Iowa, before focusing her small animal medicine skills while practicing at Banfield, The Pet Hospital in Clive, Iowa, for three years. In April 2008, she began practicing in Adel, Iowa, and became the owner of The Animal Hospital of Adel in January 2013. She is a professional member of the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Society for Theriogenology.
Dr. Jennifer is married to Peter, who is the practice manager at The Animal Hospital of Adel. They have three children: Ethan, Lauren, and Brayden. They stay busy running the kids to various sports practices and attending their games. When they have time, they enjoy watching Iowa State University sporting events and cheering on the Kansas City Royals.
The Hoffelmeyer family is made complete with their many companion animals, including:
- Rosie, a Golden Retriever who craves attention
- Naz, an energetic yellow Labrador Retriever (named after former ISU Cyclone basketball star)
- Chuck, a Rat Terrier who showed up one day and Lauren insisted that we keep after his owner couldn’t be located
- Mittens, a mischievous orphan cat that Jennifer brought home from the office
- Tucker and Gordie, siblings that are two of the most easy-going cats you will ever meet, that were saved (thanks to Lauren’s attentiveness & Jennifer’s actions) after their mother abandoned them as kittens.

Leslie was born in De Soto, IA, back when TVs were black and white, and there were party lines on the telephone. She graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in veterinary technology before moving to Dallas, TX, for work. While in Texas, she obtained her state and national veterinary technician certifications and met her husband, Larry. After the birth of their first child, the wilds of Texas were forgotten, and they moved back to Iowa. After returning, they welcomed their second child into the world. Leslie worked for various veterinary clinics in the Des Moines area before joining the staff of The Animal Hospital of Adel in 2017.
Leslie enjoys traveling with her family, and she aspires to visit every national park at least once. She has had many animal companions over the years and currently has two very spoiled Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and two geriatric cats. In her spare time, she also enjoys caring for her flowers and working in the garden.
Carly grew up on a cattle farm in Casey, Iowa where she was active in 4-H for 10 years. Now Carly lives on a farm outside of Guthrie Center with her boyfriend, Chris, and their two dogs and five cats. In her spare time, she loves doing any kind of outdoor activity, relaxing with a good book, and spending time with her friends and family.
Jennifer grew up in West Des Moines, Iowa. She attended Central College in Pella, earning degrees in biology, chemistry, and German while playing on the women’s soccer team. When she wasn’t busy studying or at practice, Jennifer worked at a mixed practice veterinary clinic in Pella. Jennifer joined the staff of The Animal Hospital of Adel in 2021.
